The Overnight Camp Experience
Camp Kahuna’s Overnight Camp in Burlington gives campers the chance to experience everything they love about summer camp, day and night. Campers stay on site, sleep in cabins with their group and share meals together throughout the week.
Days are packed with outdoor adventures, activities and camp-wide events. When the sun goes down, camp comes alive with campfires, songs, skits, cabin time and some of Kahuna’s biggest traditions and events of the summer.
Living away from home, sharing a cabin and being part of a camp community gives children the opportunity to build confidence, independence and new friendships. It’s the classic sleepaway camp experience with all the energy, traditions and spirit of Camp Kahuna.

Home Away From Home
Campers sleep right on the Camp Kahuna property in either our smaller cabin rooms, which sleep two campers each, or our larger dorm rooms in the main building, which sleep approximately 12 to 15 campers.
Campers stay together with their group, with camp staff nearby throughout the night. All sleeping areas have access to indoor washrooms, creating a comfortable and supportive space to settle in after a full day of camp.

Helping Campers Feel at Home
Camp staff sleep in the cabins with campers, so someone is always nearby throughout the night. If a camper wakes up or needs support, a staff member is there to help.
Homesickness at overnight camp is completely normal for some campers, especially when it’s their first time away from home. Our counsellors are trained to provide comfort, reassurance and support, and most campers settle in with a little extra attention. If a camper continues to struggle, a camp director will step in.
We’ll connect with you to learn what works best for your child at home and use those familiar strategies to help them settle. If they still need some extra reassurance, we can arrange for your child to speak with you. Parents can also reach a camp director by phone, email or text throughout the week.

The final campfire
The final night of Overnight Camp brings everyone together around the campfire. Campers and staff sing songs, share stories, laugh about the week and reflect on the adventures and memories they’ve made together.
It’s a final night with friends, counsellors and the whole Kahuna community before heading home, and a tradition that gives campers one last memory to take with them.

Medication
If you are considering any changes to your child’s medication for the summer, please speak with their healthcare provider before camp begins.
All medications must arrive in their original pharmacy or manufacturer container, clearly labelled with your child’s name and dosage instructions. Medication should be given directly to the camp nurse at check in and will be returned to you at check out. For the safety of our campers, we cannot administer medication that is not provided in its original labelled container.
Questions parents ask
How old does a camper have to be?
Overnight camp is for campers aged 7 to 12.
Can my child bring a phone?
No. Phones get lost or broken at camp, and they make homesickness harder to shake. We get in touch with you if there is a concern or an emergency.
Can I send food or arrange a special diet?
No outside food comes into camp, because of allergies. If your child needs a special diet, arrange it with us before camp starts.
How will we hear from camp while our child is away?
You get an email from camp every day with what the day held. Photos go up in the parent photo area and on Instagram. We only phone if something is wrong or we need your help with something.
What a camper said
-

"My favourite part about sleepaway is the laser tag, and when Joe starts talking, because everyone goes quiet."
